Working together for more connected, family-inclusive mental health support

Grand Pacific Health works with Relationships Australia NSW as part of our broader approach to integrated mental health care. The partnership brings together GPH’s community-based mental health experience with Relationships Australia NSW’s expertise in family, relationship and wellbeing support, including family conflict, parenting, social isolation and domestic and family violence.

Through our work connected with the Wagga Wagga Medicare Mental Health Centre and our broader partnership, we are developing practical ways to integrate complementary expertise, strengthen referral pathways and ensure services respond to the mental health, family and social circumstances affecting people’s wellbeing. The partnership is supported by shared governance and ongoing collaboration across service planning, establishment and delivery.

Why it matters: By working together, GPH and Relationships Australia NSW can provide more connected support that recognises mental health and wellbeing in the context of families, relationships and community.

Bringing mental health and alcohol and other drug support together

Grand Pacific Health partners with Odyssey House NSW at the Tuggerah Medicare Mental Health Centre, delivered with Hunter Primary Care and Relationships Australia NSW. The partnership brings Odyssey House NSW’s specialist alcohol and other drug (AOD) expertise into the centre’s multidisciplinary team, connecting mental health care with support for people experiencing co-occurring substance use challenges.

At Tuggerah, an Odyssey House AOD and Mental Health Worker works alongside mental health clinicians, peer workers and care navigators. Their role includes assessment, individual counselling, group facilitation, care planning and coordination, psychoeducation, harm reduction and relapse prevention support. This integrated approach enables people to access complementary expertise within the same service, with support tailored to their needs and recovery goals.

Why it matters: By bringing specialist AOD support into the mental health team, GPH and Odyssey House NSW offer a more connected response to needs that often overlap, helping people access support for both their mental health and substance use without having to navigate separate services alone.

Working together to build culturally safe, community-led mental health support

Grand Pacific Health is working with Burrun Dalai Aboriginal Corporation to establish the Tamworth Medicare Mental Health Centre. The partnership brings together GPH’s clinical and service delivery experience with Burrun Dalai’s cultural knowledge, community connections and local relationships. Together, we are developing an approach that supports Aboriginal leadership in service design, strengthens referral pathways and connects mental health care with social and emotional wellbeing.

The partnership builds on existing collaboration through the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program, including the Tamworth Blue Tree Project, which brought young people and a local artist together to share their stories through public artworks. More recently, GPH and Burrun Dalai visited the Strongbala Minds Walk-In Talk-In Space in Katherine to learn from its community-led approach. These learnings are informing plans for Tamworth, including early engagement with Elders and community leaders, welcoming spaces, outreach and stronger connections between cultural support, family wellbeing and clinical care.

Why it matters: By combining local cultural knowledge and community relationships with clinical expertise, GPH and Burrun Dalai aim to build a service shaped with the community, strengthening trust and making mental health support more accessible and responsive to local needs.

Combining local connections and psychosocial expertise to support recovery

Grand Pacific Health partners with Community Links Wellbeing in the Community Living Supports (CLS) program in South Western Sydney. The partnership combines GPH’s experience in recovery-oriented psychosocial support with Community Links Wellbeing’s longstanding local presence, community networks and relationships with South Western Sydney Local Health District. Within the broader CLS partnership, Community Links Wellbeing’s role focuses on peer and support work in the Macarthur/Wingecarribee region, including outreach facilities in Tahmoor and Bowral.

CLS provides flexible, non-clinical support shaped around each person’s goals, including building daily living skills, strengthening relationships and connecting with community, work, study and other services. Community Links Wellbeing brings local knowledge and connections with housing, family, community and mental health services to this approach. The partnership builds on previous collaboration through the Holistic Youth Program, extending the relationship into community-based recovery support.

Why it matters: Combining local relationships with psychosocial and peer support helps connect people with practical assistance close to home, supporting confidence, independence and participation in community life alongside their clinical care.

Connecting mental health, family wellbeing and community-based health promotion

Grand Pacific Health works with The Family Place through the Moruya Medicare Mental Health Centre and wider community health initiatives in the Eurobodalla. The Family Place contributes a family-centred approach and strong local connections, complementing GPH’s mental health and integrated care services. Alongside Katungul and Directions Health, the organisations collaborate through the centre’s partnership arrangements to connect mental health care with family and community support.

Practical collaboration includes the Yarning Space partnership and immunisation promotion. In 2025, the organisations formalised an agreement supporting The Family Place to share immunisation information through family consultations, education activities, community networks and social media. Follow-up correspondence documented information packs being distributed to families and promotional resources being prepared. This illustrates how the partnership extends beyond a single service to bring health information into established community and family settings.

Why it matters: The partnership links mental health expertise with trusted family and community relationships, creating more opportunities for people to access support and health information in familiar, locally connected settings.

Embedding local cultural leadership in mental health service design and access

Grand Pacific Health partners with Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation through the Campbelltown Medicare Mental Health Centre. Tharawal brings local cultural knowledge, community relationships and Aboriginal health expertise to the partnership, contributing to service design, cultural guidance and connections between the centre and existing community-controlled services. The collaboration supports an approach to mental health care informed by local community knowledge rather than developed in isolation.

Documented partnership activity includes ongoing conversations between Tharawal and the centre’s Aboriginal Care Navigator, Service Manager and Community Engagement Officer, with Tharawal representatives contributing to the Community Advisory Committee. Their input has helped shape the centre’s environment and communication practices. Joint planning has also focused on referral pathways, reciprocal site visits, in-service sessions for medical staff and cultural safety training for the centre’s workforce. These planned activities are intended to strengthen connections between the two services and support continuity of care.

Why it matters: Tharawal’s involvement gives local cultural knowledge an ongoing place in service design and improvement, supporting a more welcoming service and stronger connections with trusted Aboriginal health and wellbeing supports.
