Shellharbour Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a welcoming entry point for people aged 16 years and older and their support people, experiencing distress or mental health challenges to access support services.
Our services are delivered at no cost and consumers do not need to have an existing diagnosis, referral, mental health treatment plan, or Medicare card.

Call the Medicare Mental Health National Phone Service on 1800 595 212 to complete intake over the phone with a clinician
Have your GP, or another service, send us a completed referral form, and we’ll reach out to you

Shellharbour Medicare Mental Centre is funded by the Australian Federal Government. There is no cost to the consumer to access the service. It is completely free and confidential.
During your first contact our friendly staff may; explain the services we offer; ask you some questions to set up a file for you; and offer to book your intake with one of our clinicians.
Your intake clinician will ask you questions about yourself to ensure our service is the best fit for you. They may also develop a Wellbeing Plan with you. This may include clarifying your goals, exploring additional supports, and discussing treatment options.

Peer Workers are people who have a ‘lived experience’ of mental illness. ‘Lived Experience’ is the understanding we get from having lived through something. This may be a personal experience of mental illness, or of caring for someone with mental health issues.
Peer workers provide empathy, non-judgemental support, work with others to assist them to build the tools for their recovery and can support people in different ways depending on the needs of the person they are working with.

Our team support people by connecting them with services within the community, ensuring person-centred, integrated care. They remove access barriers, facilitate warm referrals, enhance care outcomes, and provide guidance in navigating the mental health system.
These clinicians provide support to people impacted by alcohol and drug use with co-occurring mental health needs. They provide holistic assessment, counselling, case management, referral, and harm minimisation. They can provide support with any substance use goals, whether this be reduction, abstinence, or harm minimisation, whilst being respectful and supportive at any stage of recovery. Shellharbour Medicare Mental Health have partnered with Kadesh Rehabilitation Services whose Clinician is fully integrated within our multi-disciplinary team. They support consumers by appointment on Thursdays.
Relationship counsellors specialise in working with couples, families and individual using a range of methods tailored to each person’s needs. People come to discuss personal and relationship issues, conflicts with family or friends, parenting, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual problems, childhood experiences, stress and work-related tension. Relationship counsellors view people in the context of their relational systems. Shellharbour Medicare Mental Health have partnered with Relationships Australia whose counsellor is fully integrated within our multi-disciplinary team. They support consumers by appointment on Wednesdays.
Our Employment Support is provided by our partner, Personnel Group. They are here on a fortnightly basis to connect with. They support you to achieve your goals whether it’s to find a job, upskill, or overcome barriers to be more engaged in community. We connect you with a job coach who can assist you to identify your strengths and match with job opportunities that are a good fit.
Shellharbour Medicare Mental Health Centre can access translating services to ensure our service is accessible for anyone.
