Carer Support Program – Suicide Prevention
The Suicide Prevention Carer Support Program provides connection, support and information for family members and friends with a loved one at risk of suicide or experiencing self-harm in the Nepean Blue Mountains.
The Carer Support Program is designed to support you to:
• Gain knowledge of how you can support your loved ones during periods of distress
• Learn strategies to manage your own self-care
• Be provided with information about other services and supports in your area and how to connect with them
Our approach to Suicide Prevention Carer Support Groups
• Groups are co-facilitated by lived experience peer workers and a family clinician
• Three group sessions (2 hours each) are delivered over 5 weeks
• Individual telehealth sessions with a peer worker and family clinician are available between the group sessions (optional)
• Participants can reach out for up to two months after the groups for two support calls
The following specialised groups are available under the Carer Support
Program:
• Carers supporting Young People
• Carers supporting Men (November – December)
• Carers of people from the LGBTIQA+SB Community (February – March)
• Group open for any carers who support people at risk of suicide (April – May)
Groups are delivered with no cost to participants.
