Eating disorders are serious illnesses that have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder. Despite this, they continue to be poorly recognised and under-treated. 


The GPH Eating Disorder Service provides a stepped model of care for people aged 12 and above, focused on indicated prevention, early intervention and a continuum of flexible care options that support varying levels of severity and complexity of eating disorders. Our experienced dietitians and psychologists provide evidence-based services specific to the treatment of eating disorders. 


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

12 years or older

Have an eating disorder or an unhealthy relationship with food

Be willing to have ongoing engagement with a GP as part of care

SERVICES WE OFFER

Specialist Eating Disorder Service (SEDS)
The GPH SEDS provides one on one dietetic and psychological supports for people with diagnosed eating disorders*, as well as those with disordered eating who prefer individual appointments. 

*Eating Disorders we treat: 
Adolescents 12-17 years Adults ≥18 years
Binge Eating Disorder – Mild / Moderate / Severe

Anorexia Nervosa – Mild / Moderate only
Bulimia Nervosa - Mild / Moderate only
Binge Eating Disorder – Mild / Moderate / Severe 

If you have been diagnosed with OSFED - Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder, we provide services in accordance with the most similar presentation.

 Eating Behaviour Support Service (EBSS)
The GPH EBSS provides group psychological interventions for people with disordered eating behaviours. This is an indicated prevention service, aiming to slow or stop the progression of these behaviours into a diagnosable eating disorder. We have groups specific to both adolescents and adults.

HOW TO ACCESS
 

Self-referral or Family / Carer referral
To refer yourself or a family member, or to make a referral as a carer of someone with disordered eating, or if you wish to access our services as a full fee paying client, please contact our intake team on 1800 228 987 


Medical Practitioner, Allied Health Professional or Service Organisation referral
Please complete one of the following referral forms and fax it to 02 4226 6489.

New patients
A completed GPH EDS Registration Form must also be brought with you to your first appointment.

If you are unable to complete this form prior to your first appointment, our reception has copies for you to fill out in the waiting room.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to do this.
