In a recent conversation, we had the opportunity to hear from a long-time participant of the program, who shared their personal experience and the profound impact the program has had on their life since joining in 2018.
A Lifeline in a Sea of Pain
Reflecting on her journey, the participant shared, “When I was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I felt completely alone. I didn’t know anyone else who had it, and I was struggling to manage my symptoms while caring for young children. The Chronic Pain Management Program became a lifeline. It was incredibly comforting to be surrounded by people who truly understood what I was going through.”

The program emphasised the importance of exercise and maintaining an active lifestyle, even in the face of pain. “One of the most valuable things I learned was the importance of staying active. The program encouraged us to engage in regular exercise, and we supported each other to get a little bit better each week. Now, I make sure to incorporate activities like walking, pickleball, and kayaking into my routine.”

We formed a close-knit group, cheering each other on and sharing tips and encouragement. It wasn’t just about managing pain; it was about building friendships and finding a support system.”

The participant also highlighted specific techniques that have become integral to her daily routine. “I start my day with a session on my Shakti mat, which helps alleviate my fibromyalgia symptoms. This practice, along with regular exercise and a balanced work-life schedule, has made a significant difference in my quality of life.”

Finding a balanced work schedule has also been crucial. “My new job in aged care has been a blessing. It allows me to work flexible hours, which helps me manage my condition better. I’ve learned to pace myself and ensure I have time for rest and recovery.”

We kept in touch through a Facebook group, supporting each other even after the official program ended. The techniques I learned have had a long-term impact on my life.”
