Preventing Falls, Promoting ‘LIFE’

The Lifestyle Integrated Functional Exercise Program ‘LIFE,’ teaches participants to incorporate some simple leg strengthening and balance activities into daily tasks and routines.
GPH Shell Cove Health Promotion Officer, Kaitlyn Middleton says the course is being offered to people in the Shellharbour area who are over the age of 60:
“One in three people aged over 65 fall over at least once per year, so there is a real need for a programs like this,” said Kaitlyn.
“The program consists of 1 hour group sessions each week for 5 weeks and teaches participants simple strength and balance exercises that can be incorporated into everyday life,” added Kaitlyn.

When: The program commences on Friday April 21 at 11am (participants will have a pre assessment before the first session)
Where: Shell Cove Family Health 2 Shallows Drive Shell Cove
What: FREE 5 week falls prevention exercise program
Who: People aged 60+, living at home, able to walk independently (with or without a walking aid), not diagnosed with dementia. A doctor’s referral is not required, however bookings are essential.
