Grand Pacific Health and the National Heart Foundation of Australia, are encouraging mums and dads with young kids to take a walk in their local area with a new group starting up in Goulburn from February 13.
The Goulburn ‘Parents with Prams Walking Group’ is part of the Heart Foundation Walking program and aims to get local parents to connect with their community with the added benefits of keeping fit while not needing a babysitter.
Grand Pacific Health’s Emily Bonnell said regular walking offers many benefits for mums and dads - especially their cardiovascular health:
“The simple act of walking for 30 minutes a day (or more) can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by as much as half.”
“You can even break down your 30 minutes a day, to three 10 minute intervals if that’s easier,” said Emily.
Walking as part of a parents group also promotes emotional and mental health and wellbeing.
“Walking also offers other benefits - being active on a regular basis helps you sleep better, improve your confidence, strength, balance and co-ordination,” added Emily.
The walks are free and suitable for parents with babies and toddlers in prams or strollers. It’s a fun and active way to spend time with the kids and is also a great social outing.
