mental health month

General Practitioners are now treating mental health issues more than any other health condition according to a recent report, which is being highlighted this October as part of Mental Health Month.

The 2018 Health of a Nation report released by the Royal College of General Practitioners, indicates that 62% of GP visits are from patients seeking help for a mental health concern.

Linda Campbell from Grand Pacific Health (GPH) says now is the perfect time to recognise the significance of this issue in our community:

“The theme of Mental Health Month this year is ‘Share the Journey’ and we are encouraging people to use social connection for wellbeing, as well as the benefits of storytelling to open up the lines of communication, raise awareness and break down stigma.” Said Ms Campbell.

“Local mental health service providers, including GPH, have joined forces to release an exciting calendar of events occurring throughout the Eurobodalla during the month of October to help people understand more about mental illness and learn about local support services.”

“There are many ways the community can get involved and we encourage people to attend one of the free community education sessions across the shire focusing on mental wellbeing, support for parents and mental health for men,” Ms Campbell added.
