Service Manager for headspace Bega- Brianna Armstead says the service is ramping up:

“We have appointed a Youth Reference Group (YRG) who have had their first meeting, we  are recruiting to the remainder of the team and are working with schools and other key providers in the region.”

“We are continuing to work with young people through Grand Pacific Health’s Youth Health service and are expecting an interim license from headspace National very soon,” added Brianna.

Grand Pacific Health (GPH) were awarded the role of lead agency for a headspace in Bega in April.

GPH Executive Manager of Operations Christine van den Berg, who is based in Bega, says despite construction challenges interim measures are in place:

“We are already preparing for service delivery in our outreach locations such as Narooma and Eden and are in the process of setting up a satellite service in Cooma.  We expect to roll these services out from early August.”

“Young people in Bega who are accessing our Youth Health team are continuing to receive supports and will be transitioning to the headspace model,” added Christine.

headspace centres provide early intervention, mental health and general health services to young people aged 12 to 25.

GPH established and operate headspace Wollongong, Nowra and Goulburn and have a proven track record in terms of service delivery and experience.

“GPH is committed to maintaining strong links to other services in the area and as such our local consortium continues to meet to inform service delivery,” says Christine.

“We are also continuing to deliver training and mental health literacy programs to the community and engaging young people.”

”There are a number of different ways young people can be referred to our service - including; accessing their local GP for referral, calling the Bega office or GPH’s mental health intake number on 1800 228 987,” added Christine.
